Thanks so much! Sorry it took a day or two to express my real grattitude that someone out there heard my tiny little quuestion lol! My next question is this: if a garment pattern says it has a 1/2" seam allowance and I decide to go ahead and serge that together, maybe picking up/putting down the knives for no cutting, is there any adjustment to be made? I wouldn't imagine so, but maybe there's something tricky I should know? Many thanks. E

You're not alone, most sergers don't coverstitch :-) The coverstitch is usually used for hemming, one way to hem your garment is to serge the edge so it wont roll on you, turn in under and sew using a long straight stitch or a zig zag (both on your sewing machine). If your knits not real curly one I'd skip the serging and just turn in under and stitch.

For construction I always use the 4 thread. I know some people like the 3 thread, but I like the added security of the 4 thread and I've never had seams come undone on me later. :-)

Hi! Really glad I stumbled into this site. I need help with my first knit garment! I DO have a brand-spanking new serger. My pattern says that a "coverstitch is ideal," but then does not suggest another stitch I could use in its stead! My serger doesn't coverstitch! Please, what other kind of stitch should I use? I would imagine a four-thread serge, or "Mock safety stitch???" Thanks

Rit makes a "dye remover" that is created for the purpose of removing extra colors from whites. It's not a bleach and can be used on prints. My bedding came out beautifully when I used it. http://www.amazon.com/Rit-Dye-Powder-Color-Remover/dp/B0012DNCXG
I stumbled onto your site looking for an obi belt. Gorgeous work on the kyoko pattern dress. It turned out lovely.
